E ndless sand…sun…camels… ancient trade routes… nomads…caravans crossing the emptiness. These are just a few of the pictures that flash across our minds when we hear the words “North Africa.” Other images are more traumatic— gunshots, tear gas, smoke, and screams from people caught up in religious, ethnic, and political conflicts, both ancient and modern.

S everal years ago, Linda and I were sitting in a Pizza Hut in Alice Springs, the capital of the outback, in Australia. (Linda was suffering from pizza deprivation after all the kangaroo we had eaten.) While we ate, we overheard some teens at the next table comparing American football to World Cup soccer. They couldn’t get over how many players are on an American football team. When I explained that there are also special units within a football team, they were even more befuddled! |

P aul had a passionate desire to make Jesus Christ known to all. However, he did not just want people to be saved from their sins; he wanted to see believers grow beyond the elementary truths of the gospel to a deeper love and understanding of Christ. He also wanted them to know the riches that they have already received through Him—the riches that make it possible to live victoriously through Christ on this earth.
