 Life Training Electives

As our vision statement clearly states, “We exist as a scriptural community, seeking to make disciples of Jesus Christ …” Life Training Electives are one avenue that assists us in accomplishing this mission in three different ways:

1. We offer a variety of classes for adults that are related to spiritual growth, Bible knowledge and application, life issues, and ministry preparation. Each class is designed to better equip you for life and ministry.

2. Our Men’s and Women’s Ministries offer gender groups /classes which focus upon related issues of men and women.

3. Several classes are offered through specific Discipleship Communities designed to provide a deeper level of relationships designed to move people in discipleship.

List of 2019 Spring Electives (January 23 – April 24)

New Connections (Next open class is March 20)

Pastor Nathan Smith & Pastoral Staff—Libya, M238
New Connections is a dynamic, comprehensive introduction to the entire ministry at Heritage Baptist Church. The church’s doctrines, policies, philosophy, and structure are explained. Taught by the Senior Pastor, this class is a great way to connect with him and is the gateway to membership at Heritage. Click here to register for our remaining session!

The Book of Job

Dr. Chris Gnanakan — Morocco, M244

Why do bad things happen to God’s people? Join us as we study the book of Job to seek answers to questions on the enigma of evil and the problem of suffering and God’s sovereignty. Come discover that no matter what trial life brings, our God is too good to be unkind to us and too wise to make mistakes in our lives! We can trust Him!

Women’s Elective: Becoming a Woman of Freedom

Heather Cook, Gina Anderson, Rhonda Hankins— Egypt, M234
No matter what your age, circumstances, or level of spiritual maturity, Cynthia Heald will help you identify and lay aside the burdens that can make you feel hindered in your spiritual walk, including past hurts and losses, poor self image, approval seeking, busyness, doubt and fear, and unhealthy influences. Small group setting. Light homework. Books can be purchased in the classroom for $10.

Defining and Defending a Biblical Worldview

Will Honeycutt — Greece, W126
Where do we come from? What does it mean to be human? What is the difference between right and wrong, good and evil? What happens when we die? Join our in-depth study focused on answering these BIG questions and others through a biblical lens to more clearly define and defend the unchanging truth of God in an ever changing world.

The Parables of Christ

Doug Johnson — Germany, W127
During his earthly ministry, Jesus employed numerous methods of instructing his disciples, among them; beatitudes, proverbs, laments. However, almost a third of his teachings are in the form of parables which appear in the latter part of his ministry. Why parables, and why so late? Join us for a 14 week interactive study as we seek to unlock the eternal truths regarding the Kingdom of God and how these truths should impact our walk with Christ today.

4-Fields Church Planting Training & Residency

Pastor Rob — France, W128
Drawing from Jesus’ Mark 4 parable of the seed growing, this elective is a hands-on opportunity for you to gain valuable tools, encouragement, and confidence to effectively engage your neighborhood with the Gospel. This is a “residency”, not a class! It is an iron sharpening iron group where we will be challenged together with achievable weekly steps and goals to see disciple-making relationships develop with the friends, neighbors, and beyond. This elective is limited to 20 people, so if you are interested in joining please email Nathan Coffey in the global ministries office at nacoffey@hbclynchburg.com to sign up today!
