 Life Training Electives

As our vision statement clearly states, “We exist as a scriptural community, seeking to make disciples of Jesus Christ …” Life Training Electives are one avenue that assists us in accomplishing this mission in three different ways:

1. We offer a variety of classes for adults that are related to spiritual growth, Bible knowledge and application, life issues, and ministry preparation. Each class is designed to better equip you for life and ministry.

2. Our Men’s and Women’s Ministries offer gender groups /classes which focus upon related issues of men and women.

3. Several classes are offered through specific Discipleship Communities designed to provide a deeper level of relationships designed to move people in discipleship.

New Connections (Next open class is October 31)

Pastor Nathan Smith & Pastoral Staff—Libya, M238
New Connections is a dynamic, comprehensive introduction to the entire ministry at Heritage Baptist Church. The church’s doctrines, policies, philosophy, and structure are explained. Taught by the Senior Pastor, this class is a great way to connect with him and is the gateway to membership at Heritage. Click here to register for one of our three remaining sessions!

Main Elective: Paul and the Spontaneous Expansion of the Church

Dr. Chris Gnanakan—Morocco, M244
Acts is an apologia/defense that legitimizes the “Christian” faith and mission before the Jewish and Greco-Roman authorities. Luke records the origin and expansion of the Church that Jesus promised to build. This study demonstrates the unfolding of God’s plan of salvation for “all nations” through Jesus’ Spirit-filled disciples. Join us as we continue our study of Acts 13-28 and how suffering helps to spread the Gospel and plant new churches among the unreached!

Ezra – The Second Exodus

Bob Rencher—United Kingdom, W129
This is a 10-week study of the Old Testament book of Ezra covering the 80-year period between 538 B.C. and 458 B.C. in the life of the nation of Israel. This study will emphasize both the historical events of Ezra and the practical applications that should impact our lives. Major topics include: God’s sovereign, providential control over history; unwavering confidence in and uncompromising obedience to God’s Word; God’s desire for personal holiness in His children; and the power of intercessory prayer. Other books, such as 2 Chronicles, Haggai, Zechariah, Esther, and Nehemiah, are noted as they interact with the book of Ezra.

Understanding the Mysteries of Genesis

Dr. Jerry Kroll—Germany, W127
How do dinosaurs, the Ice Age, fossils, the age of the earth, E.T., and the uniqueness of the earth fit with Scripture? Utilizing resources from the Institute for Creation Research, we will examine these and other mysteries in light of the Book of Genesis. Because Genesis is the foundation for the rest of Scripture, this is a topic that impacts how we interpret the rest of God’s Word.

Women’s Elective: Discerning the Voice of God

Martha Vernon, Heather Cook, and Co.—Egypt, M234
Discover the root to clear and daily communication with God—humble obedience. Learn how surrender unlocks His many blessings intended for us, centers us in His will, and helps us discern His voice in everyday life. Heather Cook and Co. will be leading the women of Heritage in an insightful study through Priscilla Shire’s book, “Discerning the Voice of God.” Books will be sold in class for $13.
